Vikram lander landed on the Moon at around 6:02 PM (IST) on 23 August, 2023, making India fourth country after Russia(Soviet Union), USA and China to successfully land on the moon. Our team kindheartedly congratulate team ISRO for achieving such an amazing feat and making country proud.
ISRO shared the images on X(formerly twitter), four hours after achieving the landing. The image shows the landing site and a shadow of landing leg.
Chandrayaan-3 is first spacecraft to touch down near lunar south pole. The lunar south pole may contain water trapped inside rocks.
Along with Vikram lander, a rover named Pragyan was also onboard. An image has been circulating showing Pragyan rover coming out of the Vikram lander, though ISRO has not officially announced the same.
Chandrayaan-3 was India’s second attempt to land on the moon. In 2019, Chandrayaan-2 failed due to a software glitch.
